BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Following is a summary of news reports posted until 10:00 p.m. Baghdad local time Wednesday–Nov. 18:

* Politics:

BAGHDAD - The National Iraqi Alliance (NIA) on Wednesday held an emergency meeting, presided over by Sheikh Hammam Hamoudi, to discuss the vice president’s veto of the elections law.

BAGHDAD - Iraq’s Deputy Foreign Minister Labeed Abbawi on Wednesday met with the Spanish ambassador to Baghdad, Francisco Elias de Tejada, to discuss a partnership agreement that is scheduled to be signed between Iraq and the European Union.

* Security:

MISSAN - Police forces on Wednesday arrested three drug dealers in Missan, according to a local official.

MISSAN - Police forces on Wednesday defused a roadside bomb south of Amara city, Missan province.

BASRA - Two wanted persons and eight suspects on Wednesday were arrested during raids in Basra, according to a local security source.

WASSIT - Police forces on Wednesday found the body of a girl who committed suicide in the Tigris River, according to a security source.

DIALA - Iraqi police forces in Diala on Wednesday arrested province two Iranians who entered Iraq illegally.

ANBAR - Seven persons believed to have been involved in acts of violence that hit Falluja City were arrested on Wednesday, according to a security source.

DIALA - Diala’s Sahwa council leader on Wednesday escaped an attempt on his life, the second in less than a month, according to a local security official.

DIALA - One civilian was killed and another one was injured Wednesday by a roadside bomb blast in Jalawlaa, according to a security source.

* Economy:

BASRA - Activities for the international water conference have begun in Basra province to discuss the effects of the water crisis on nature and society.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi Stock Exchange (ISX) registered a slight decrease in Wednesday’s trading session as more than 1.2 billion shares exchanged hands at a value of 1.9 billion Iraqi dinars (roughly $1.6 million) over 31 joint-stock firms, closing at 107.19 points.

NINEWA - The first investment conference in Mosul has been held under the auspices of Ninewa’s governor and with the participation of a large number of local directors.

BASRA - Major Gulf companies will soon arrive in Basra to carry out investment projects in the province, Basra’s governor said on Wednesday.

* Variety:

NINEWA - The Displacement and Migration Department in Talafar has distributed food aid to 1,139 displaced families in the district, the department’s head said on Wednesday.

BAGHDAD - The British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will receive on Thursday, Nov. 19, at his office in 10 Downing St., London, an Iraqi young man along with 11 other young men from different countries.
