President Talabani receives a delegation of U.S. senators

His Excellency President Jalal Talabani at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, on Tuesday 5/1/2010, a delegation of U.S. senators, led by Senator John McCain and Senator Joseph Lieberman and Sen. John Barrasso and Sen. John Thune, The delegation also included Deputy U.S. Ambassador Robert Ford, commander U.S. in Iraq, General Raymond Odierno.
President Talabani welcomed the visiting delegation, pointing to the importance of expanding bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States in all fields and in the interest of the peoples of the two countries.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on developments and current challenges facing Iraq and the conduct of the political process.
And he emphasized that this year will be a fateful decision for the Iraqis, which will take place when the legislative election, which will determine the path and the features of the new Iraq, adding "We are facing an important election event, and that this step will contribute to the development and deepening of the democratic experience growing, and that the Iraqis will make unremitting efforts order to move this process is fair, transparent and democratic "
With regard to alliances, the current political blocs, Talabani said the visiting delegation of the nature and course of these alignments and their impact on the future political map of the country.
They also touched on the issue of Kirkuk, where the President stressed that there is a road map established by the Constitution of Iraq through the Article 140 to resolve this issue, stressing the need to work hard to promote brotherhood and peaceful coexistence between civilization and all of the components in various shades of Kirkuk.
It was also considered a range of regional and international issues of common interest, where His Excellency the renewed emphasis on the democratic, federal Iraq that will play a key role in the region and the democratic experience which will lead by example.
For his part, the visiting delegation was pleased that the encouraging developments achieved in Iraq in the political, security and economic development, reaffirming that the United States continues to support and to support Iraq and help the Iraqis overcome the challenges they face, and America is viewed with attention to the upcoming legislative elections, appraisers the role of President Talabani in the consolidation of national unity and harmony in Iraq.
