Erbil, Apr. 1 (AKnews) – The Iraqi Agriculture Ministry has decided to avoid importing seven types of vegetables to Iraq, but Kurdistan Region still welcome vegetables in the Region, the Agriculture Ministry's spokesman said on Thursday.
"We have worked together with the Interior Ministry to recommend the entire border cross points to prevent introducing seven vegetables: tomatoes, cucumber, eggplant, onion, beans, zucchini, and okra since April 1st to Iraq," Subbehi Jumalai stated.
"We have taken into consideration the greenhouses successfully to produce vegetables in the local farms," he added.
Hussein H. Karim said that "the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has imported foreign vegetable products with imposing taxes on them in order to protect the local production."
The Iraqi Agriculture Ministry set tight mechanisms to increase the local production via the international Monetary Funds.
