Shanghai Company Begin The Construction Works Of Power Station In Iraq of 1 billion USD

Officials said that Shanghai electric company which is the biggest manufacturer of power generating equipments in China began the works at power generating station in Iraq at a cost of one billion us dollars to boost the power production capacity in Iraq with 1320 Megawatt.


The steam power generating station in Zubaidiya near the city of Kut 150 kilometers southeast Baghdad is considered one of the biggest projects in electricity sector in the country where power shortage is the main complaint of Iraqi citizens.


Iraqi and Chinese officials said Saturday that this project which including the purchase and installation of 4 steam turbines each of them has the capacity of 330 Megawatt will boost the Iraqi production of electricity in big percentage during the coming four years.


And indeed the work to install these turbines began earlier this month and it is expected that the first turbine will start operating after three years.
Hameed Alebrahimy official in Iraqi ministry of electricity who is in charge of the project told Reuters during interview on the project site that this project is big project and it is considered one of the biggest power stations in Iraq and he added saying that Iraq need every 100 Megawatt that could added to its power production capacity.


The ministry of electricity estimates the available production capacity of electricity in Iraq of nine thousand Megawatt while the overall production capacity of electricity is between 11 thousand and 12 thousand Megawatt and the demand is about 12 thousand Megawatt at least.


The work in the project is on foot now and Chinese engineers and workers started to work on the ground already at the time where a camp is being built to accommodate the expected big numbers of workers over the few coming months.



Kawo Lenjon the site manager of Shanghai electric said that he intend to bring at least 100 additional Chinese worker over the coming two or three weeks in line with the speeding work pace.


Kawo said during a visit to the power station which is heavily guarded by Iraqi army and police forces (If I had any fear then I would not be here)
Iraq is trying to attract the foreign experience and investments to help in the rebuilding process.

IN 7 years!!!! The "coalition" forces couldn't fix it??????????? WTHeck?? I read article after article that different companies from every country in the world is getting big contracts in iraq.........where are the USA contracts? the British contracts????
