Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, said the Government intend to provide a special Iraqi vision to rid itself of the burden of the seventh item during the coming meeting of the UN Security Council.

Zebari flew to New York yesterday evening to participate in the meeting of Security Council which will be held mid-month, after he briefed the League of Arab States on the substance of the Iraqi paper which will be presented during the meeting. The foreign minister said at a joint conference with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Amr Moussa, in Cairo that Iraq was committed to all international legitimacy resolutions, including resolutions of the State of Kuwait, but the government calls for a timetable to implement these by commitments Iraq; otherwise, these commitments would seem endless. He also referred that several meetings had been held between Iraqi and United Nations officials in preparation to present the Iraqi vision to the Security Council, and clarified that Iraq's ridding out of the seventh item would not threaten Kuwait and will not be at the expense of the rights and interests of the people of Kuwait.

Zebari confirmed that the government supports and encourages activating relations with Arab countries through the signing of bilateral agreements, noting that he had briefed Moussa on the memorandum of cooperation signed with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Abul Gheit. Baghdad and Cairo had signed a memorandum of cooperation and strategic dialogue that include cooperation in the diplomatic, political, economic and military fields, as well as focusing on training programs in cultural, diplomatic, educational and artistic areas. The memorandum also includes opening the doors for Egyptian public and private sectors to invest in Iraq and begin the implementation of large-scale projects, in addition to the settlement of the issue of Iraqi debt to Egypt, especially the yellow cards belonging to the Egyptians who worked in Iraq.

On his part, Moussa said that his meeting with the Foreign Minister was necessary to exchange views on the situation in the region and access to the functions of Zebari's coming visit to New York as well as the participation of the Iraqi delegation, headed by the Iraqi Vice-President Tareq al-Hashemi, to the Non-Aligned summit held in Sharm el-Sheikh next Wednesday and Thursday. The Arab League Secretary-General said the meeting also dealt with the developments in the Arab - Israel conflict and the situation in the region.
