Dr. Iyad al-Samarrai, the head of the Iraqi parliament, welcomed a number of U.S. Congress members representing the Finance Committee on Wednesday, accompanied by U.S Ambassador to Iraq, Christopher Hill.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the political arena and ways to strengthen relations between the parliaments of the two countries and ways of activating the Strategic Framework Agreement (SFA) with respect to scientific and cultural aspects.
Senator Stanford Bishop, head of the U.S. delegation, expressed at a news briefing following the meeting, his delight about the cooperation and for representatives of the American people knowing the reality on the Iraqi ground, and ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries. They also discussed issues of common interest, including oil and gas law and national reconciliation, and the new economic system for Iraq and its transformation from a socialist system to a market economy.The meeting was attended by the Deputy and Dr. Dhafir al-Ani. Salman Jumaili, in addition to a number of presidential advisers.
