VP urges OIC members to resume diplomatic ties with Iraq

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi has called on the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to restore diplomatic relations and enter into partnership agreements with Iraq.
This came during his speech at the OIC’s first economic summit, held in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
“The Parliament will approve the new budget for the year 2010, which is remarkably higher than last year’s,” Hashemi said.
“Iraq has signed significant and long-term agreements with Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and other countries,” he added.
The Iraqi official has also called on the member states to write off Iraq’s debts to them in an attempt to alleviate the pressure on the Iraqi budget.
