Finance minister releases 50% of provincial budgets

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Iraqi finance minister, Baqr Jabbur al-Zubaidi, on Thursday ordered the release of 50 percent of the provinces’ 2009 budgets, according to a release issued by his Ministry.
“I call on provinces to invest those funds in the best way,” the release received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency quoted al-Zubaidi.
“I also call on them to execute the projects that were supposed to be finalized in 2008,” he said.
Al-Zubaidi explained that Iraq needs more than 400 billion U.S. dollar to rehabilitate its provinces’ infrastructures.
