Iraq's Economic Future Conference wraps recommendations to enhance the opportunities for investment and development

Conference concluded the economic future of Iraq (the conference: the economic and social partners and government), which was held under the auspices of the House of Representatives, opened on Thursday 26/05/2011, issuing a number of recommendations that contribute to the promotion of investment opportunities and development of Iraq's development.

The conferees at the conclusion of the conference, which lasted for three days and the participation of more than two hundred personal economic and political Iraqi and foreign, the importance of economic and social reforms within the framework of sustainable development plan for the future of Iraq and the roles are interdependent and mutual support between the government and the economic and social partners in the formulation and implementation of reforms in addition to the emphasis on the importance of the role of the private sector a key partner for the public sector in the process of economic and social development and sustainable growth generator of employment and the role of effective and participatory role in the promotion of social dialogue process and the National League lead to compatible reforms in a democratic state.

The Conference recommended the establishment of a consultative mechanism trilogy based on the principles of social dialogue and is composed of government representatives, employers, and workers to continue to work together for the effective application of economic and social development in Iraq and to support the issuance of the laws of economic reform, employment and investment (as amended) as well as other economic reforms and other relevant laws that support the national goal in creating a favorable economic environment for private sector development and growth generator for use and decent work.

The recommendations focused on the need to empower women and youth to exercise their leadership role and involvement of the actual activity of political, economic, and promote social justice, including equitable sharing of wealth, which contributes to all partners in the created; and support the national dialogue for social protection in addition to the continuation of consultations on the restructuring of state-owned enterprises with the participation of full to all partners, keeping into account the importance of alleviating the social impact of potential as well as providing support through the Tripartite participatory mechanisms for the effective implementation of national employment policy adopted by the Council of Ministers in August 2010 in line with the national development plan.

The recommendations called to participate in the consultations on the reform of the public distribution system to ensure the recovery of the agricultural sector and industries, food manufacturing, including the promotion of employment opportunities in rural areas for men and women with ensuring the provision of food to the most vulnerable to poverty and vulnerability as well as the backing and support of all legislation, to ensure that civil liberties and the protection of constitutional rights, particularly with regard to the principles of freedom of association and effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining as approved by the International Labour Standards and the relevant Arab and ratified by Iraq, and urged the government to ratify the International Convention 87 of 1948.


And demanded that the recommendations that the Conference recognizes the formation of a tripartite committee to follow up and implementation and effectiveness of the document issued by the Conference, to complete its work during a period of 12 months in addition to working to provide support and cooperation of the international art from the ILO and other organizations of this Committee and to enable them to carry out their duties in accordance with the terms of reference.
