UN envoy promises Iraq to step forward on Chapter VII issue Today at 3:19 pm

BAGHDAD, Nov 5 (KUNA) --
Special Adviser on the International Compact with Iraq and Other
Political Issues, Ibrahim Gambari assured that the UN seeks to have
Iraq get out from under the yoke of Chapter VII.
Gambari
said during his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki here
that he had met with representatives from different countries at the
UN, where they expressed support to see Iraq relieved from the shackles
of Chapter VII.
He added, that in view of
the Iraqi government's accomplishments, the UN needs to establish a new
mechanism between Iraq and other countries, in order to present Iraq's
new facade, to get the support of these countries and others regarding
Chapter VII.
Furthermore, Gambari said that the UN will
continue the support Iraq and its national sovereignty, as well as
offering the necessary means on both political and developmental basis.
In addition, he promised to deliver the Iraqi point of view in regards
to combating terrorism as well as the foreign intervention to the UN
seceretary-general.
Meanwhile,
Al-Maliki called the international society during his meeting with
Gambari to have Iraq emerge from the VII Chapter, noting his country's
cooperation with the UN in different sectors and fields. Furthermore,
he added that the latest terrorism attacks that took place in Iraq was
to be discussed with the UN, which in his opinion is more important
than the International Covenant Draft.
