Barzani warns that the survival of Article 140 of the unresolved problems of Iraq will increase

Warned Iraq's Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani during a meeting with Czech Ambassador to Iraq, Monday, that the non-implementation of Article 140 for addressing the disputed areas, Iraq would make for more problems, with Czech Ambassador revealed that her country would send a number of its citizens to work within the monitoring teams International election period.

Barzani said in a statement issued by the Presidency of the Kurdistan region, that Barzani said that "the implementation of Article 140 of the Constitution, the Constitutional timing at the end of 2007, Iraq would avoid the problems experienced now."

Barzani added that the survival of this article without the implementation of more time, meaning that Iraq "would be subjected to more problems," as he put it, noting that "the people of Kurdistan is committed to the current constitution and is considered a guarantee for the survival of a unified Iraq."

The problem of the disputed areas, most notably the city of Kirkuk, the most divisive issues between the KRG and Iraqi federal government, after postponing the implementation of constitutional article 140, which calls to solve the problem in three phases, beginning to normalize and calm the situation in those areas followed by the process of compensating those affected by the policies of the former Iraqi government, and ending a census and referendum to the views of the inhabitants of those areas to determine its ownership management.

The statement quoted the Czech Ambassador Bronislava Tomashova confirmed "the importance of addressing outstanding problems between the Territory and the Federal Government of Iraq and conduct a new census of the population," the statement said Tomashova pointed out that the "survival of the unresolved problems between the two sides is not good for Iraq, should be the formulation of Article 140 of the Constitutional and the law of oil and gas in place.

It is noteworthy that Iraq will witness in October of this year, a new census of the population is the first of its kind since 1987.

The statement quoted the ambassador as saying that "her country supports the Iraqi elections will provide support via the embassy, and send a team of observers from its citizens to work within the international observation teams during the elections."
