Political first: in talks to rid Iraq of Chapter VII of money

Examined by the Joint Coordination Committee between Iraq and the United States in its first meeting held in Baghdad yesterday, the means capable of putting the country subject to Chapter VII.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the committee that the Iraqi side was headed by Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, the U.S. side by Deputy Foreign Minister Geoff Vlosman, also discussed aspects of the recovery of Iraq's international status that it enjoyed prior to the adoption of resolution 661 of 1990 and Washington meet its obligations in this regard on the basis agreement to withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq and the organization of its presence there.
During the meeting, circulation issues of common concern, in addition to the conditions that in the region and means to enhance the chances of providing security and stability to Iraq and the region in general.
It is said that this committee was set up based on the strategic framework agreement between Iraq and the United States to follow the section on political and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries. It was decided that the next meeting in Washington, DC, date to be determined

Iraqi-US cmte resumes talks on chapter VII

BAGHDAD, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi-US coordination committee held a meeting on Sunday to follow up on discussions on the issue of relieving Iraq of the UN-imposed Chapter Seven.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that minister Hoshyar Zebari headed the Iraqi side at the meeting, while the US party was led by the Deputy Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman.

Discussions at the meeting dealt with various issues of common concern, current regional affairs and means and plans for boosting security and stability in Iraq in particular and the region in general, the official statement said.

They also dealt in particular with the means to relieve Iraq of the chapter seven, efforts to enable Iraq restore its international status that it had enjoyed before issuance of the UN resolution 661 in 1990, in addition to the US honoring of its pledges with regard of the withdrawal of the American forces from the country.

In October 2009, the US declared that it agreed with Iraq on establishing the joint commission to resolve issues related to the chapter Seven. (end) ahh.rk KUNA 250006 Jan 10NNNN
