BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: An initial agreement has been reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to lend Iraq $5-6 billion U.S. dollars at an interest rate of 1 percent, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance said on Sunday.
“The loan is for a period of no more than five years and may be renewed for another 10 years,” according to a ministry statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
The agreement has been reached during talks between the minister of finance, Bayan Jabr al-Zubeidi, and IMF experts, the statement noted.
Technical meetings will be held between experts from Iraq and the monetary fund in mid-July, the statement added.
