Iraq: Germany Downgrades Travel Warning
May 4, 2011
Following a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari in Berlin, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said Iraq has been deemed safe enough for potential investors to visit, DPA reported May 4.
Germany's travel warning has been adjusted, indicating non-touristic visits could be considered if proper preparations were taken, according to Westerwelle. The adjustment will remove the obstacles that have kept German business leaders from investing and working in Iraq, Zebari said, adding that Iraqi reconstruction efforts will need German technology and expertise. Westerwelle said Iraq is a strategic market with enormous potential.
