ROME, July 3 (Reuters) - Leaders of the Group of Eight rich powers should give an upbeat message on economic prospects when they meet in Italy next week, Italian Prime Minister and G8 President Silvio Berlusconi said on Friday.
'In my opinion the worst that was going to happen has already happened,' Berlusconi told reporters ahead of the July 8-10 meeting, saying that leaders should do their best to improve the morale of worried consumers.
'I don't think there are any alternative proposals, to get out of the crisis, than (waging) war against fear,' he said. 'In any case if there are any other suggestions to build a better future then we are here to listen to them.'
The leaders of the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Russia, together with those of major emerging economies, will meet in the central Italian town of L'Aquila. Keywords: G8 ECONOMY/BERLUSCONI
