Iraqi Post-Invasion Trade Fair Draws First U.S. Firms
November 01, 2011, 12:23 PM EDT
Nov. 1 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. companies took part for the first time in an Iraqi trade fair since the ouster of Saddam Hussein in 2003, the president of the U.S. Business Council in Iraq said.
“Even if the U.S. takes 10 percent of the import market, you are still talking about a market that is in hundreds of billions of dollars,” Hussein Qaragholi said today in Baghdad. The council is a non-profit group promoting U.S. private investment in Iraq, according to the organization’s website.
U.S. firms operating in Iraq don’t need American troops to provide security, Qaragholi said. The U.S. plans to withdraw its armed forces from Iraq by the end of the year.
