Us Defense Secretary confirmed leon panetta today (Tuesday) its support for the decision of President Barack Obama's withdrawal of US forces from Iraq at the end of the year. Panetta said in a statement before the Armed Forces Committee in the Senate that the United States should recognize that Iraq is a sovereign state.
Panetta said that the United States has tried to negotiate to keep a small contingent in Iraq after the end of the year, but the talks failed because of a lack of agreement on giving us troops immunity law.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the US armies General Martin Dempsey before the committee that he was concerned over the future of Iraq, but agreed with the decision to withdraw troops because it could not work without legal protection.
