French Foreign Minister: he says Paris should help Kuwait in addressing the border issue with Iraq
Said French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on Wednesday that Paris should "support" of Kuwait in addressing the issue of the border with Iraq and that he ought to settle this case quickly, as, according to Kuwaiti News Agency "Kuna".
Kouchner said before the Foreign Affairs Committee in the French Parliament that he had visited Kuwait recently and saw a real issue and that he had discussed with Kuwaiti officials on this issue.
The French minister said "We went recently to Kuwait and went repeatedly to Iraq and we must settle this question will not be through a bold initiative or through the initiative of which Iraq says it is not a problem now we need to address it."
Kouchner said in response to the question: "I think it is on the border issue, our relationship with the State of Kuwait is good enough to be the advocates in this matter."
He said in answer to a question about compensation of Iraq's invasion and occupation of Kuwait and the losses suffered by the two countries, particularly Kuwait and France preferred to international negotiations on this subject, but has not yet begun.
He pointed out that despite the progress in the development of Iraq, however, financial maintain all forms of compensation beyond the assessment of international payments, which is "not on the agenda".
