NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The World Trade Organization's top court on Monday upheld a prior ruling that the United States has the right to impose additional duties on imports of Chinese tires, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said in a statement. The WTO decision involves a dispute that began after the U.S. imposed 35% duties in September 2009 after the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers Union complained rising Chinese imports were damaging U.S. producers. The WTO verdict is a "tremendous victory for the United States as well as for American workers and manufacturers," Kirk said in the release.
