/ Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Parliament Speaker Iyad al-Samarraie has called
on the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to activate the
Mecca Declaration, according to an informed media source.
“Samarraie received in his Baghdad-based residence the OIC
ambassador to Iraq, Hamid al-Tani, and urged him to activate the Mecca
Declaration, which the speaker said has laid down national
reconciliation principles…,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“Putting an end to violence is the starting point for national reconciliation, not the end point,” Samarraie noted.
The OIC envoy said that it has allocated $500 million U.S. dollars in humanitarian support for Iraq.
