BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: The local government in Basra is drawing up a strategy on how to disburse revenues from crude oil production and border outlets, the local governor said on Wednesday.
“The Parliament’s recent decision gives Basra preference and a high significance, being the only city in Iraq to be granted $3 U.S. dollars,” Governor Shaltagh Abboud said during a press conference attended by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
Basra will be paid $1 for each barrel of oil produced in the province, another dollar for each barrel of refined crude, and a third for each 150 cubic meters of gas produced there, Abboud explained.
The Shiite city of Basra lies 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
